From the Artist
I’m a native Maine artist, also a retired corporate manager, designer and wedding photographer. I have been painting since 1985.
Funny story: I discovered my gift by chance when I was working at the University of Maine in Orono. My co-worker encouraged me to enter my first painting into an annual contest open to faculty, staff and students. I was hesitant to compete with experts; however, as a single parent, I was interested in the prize money. SURPRISE!! I won first place in the acrylics division.
I continued to paint for the following 3 years, winning a couple more contests and selling a few paintings. Then life got in the way. I moved to Maryland and got busy getting settled. Later I entered college majoring in art and photography. While at college I was on the dean’s list in both majors.
Life continued to intervene with my art career; but I did paint when time permitted. I am considered adept in watercolor, acrylic and oils. Without a proper degree, I am still able to produce a quality product; I have followed the best of the best via YouTube and taken classes from a few. I also practice a lot now that I’m retired (practice makes perfect).
I take the extra steps and cost to use acid free materials to encase my work, as well as the finest paints available on today’s market. I even use filtered water, and don’t run my fingers over my paper (your fingers have oils and acids which may cause your art to deteriorate early), As an investment, my work should stand up to time if it’s cared for properly once purchased. My paintings would make nice heirlooms.
One thing I don’t invest heavily in is most of my frames. A lot of collectors prefer to have the work framed in a set-up that fits into their décor and is a lot fancier than I offer. I’m not offended. It’s yours to do with as you wish. 💕 Art that I have custom-framed is recognizable in the price of the painting. Other paintings have a price reflecting the size and time involved in the work.
