From the Artist

My paintings are a 3-way conversation between the subject, the medium, and the artist who seeks to observe and facilitate rather than control the interaction. By beginning with drawings I am better able to understand the essence of the subject and what details absolutely need to be included to define it. This frees the medium—paint, paintbrush, and a lot of water—to move about, even explode on the very wet paper, letting light come through the transparent layers of color. My role as the artist is to keep the conversation flowing as the subject and medium combine to express the beauty and joy of the natural world.
