Planned Giving

Planned Giving

Without the legacies left behind and created by past Bangor residents, the Bangor Public Library would not be the thriving community resource that it is today. Help us preserve this resource by including the library in your estate plans.

Why make a planned gift?

A planned gift allows you to:

  • Take care of the financial needs of your family first

  • Provide inheritances for your family or friends at a lower tax cost

  • Possibly reduce your income tax and even avoid any capital gains taxes

  • Diversify your investment portfolio

  • Increase income with an effective rate of return

  • Create a lasting legacy

Types of Gifts

  • Bequest – A provision is made in the will for a charitable gift to benefit the Library.

  • Charitable Remainder Trust – A trust is established to provide the donor (or other beneficiaries) an income for life or for a specified term, with the remainder to benefit the Library.

  • Life Insurance – A policy can be gifted by naming the Bangor Public Library as owner and beneficiary.

  • Retirement Fund – The Bangor Public Library can be designated as a beneficiary or partial beneficiary of a retirement account.

Benefits and Recognition
The Library honors every planned gift donor with membership in the Luther H. Peirce Legacy Society. As a member, you will enjoy:

  • The satisfaction of making a gift that will ensure the essential work of the Library for future generations.
  • The opportunity, if you agree, for your gift to be publicly recognized in Library publications and on the website.
  • The option, if you prefer, to give anonymously.

Making Your Gift to the Library
If you let us know that you have made the Bangor Public Library a full or partial beneficiary of your will, trust, life insurance policy or retirement fund, you immediately become a full member of the Luther H. Peirce Legacy Society. Your gift need not be irrevocable and we understand that situations change. It is your current expression of commitment to the Library that is important.
